I am a walker.\u00a0 Most days I like to find an hour or so to go for a walk.\u00a0 Tonight was no exception.\u00a0 It was a beautiful evening and lots of people were out and about.\u00a0 As my feet fell into a rhythmic pace, sights and sounds and smells captivated my senses.\u00a0 I couldn\u2019t help but feel alive in this moment and space.\u00a0 Maybe a little like Winnie the Pooh when he said, \u201cSometimes the smallest things take up the most room in your heart.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Young \u201cmen\u201d were practicing football in the park, while parents sat on the sidelines, exchanging the day\"\"\u2019s afflictions.\u00a0 The sound of crashing helmets and coaches\u2019 whistles interrupted the chirping birds and the plane\u2019s engine noise overhead.\u00a0 Neighborhood kids gathered on bikes and in yards, giggling and screaming and choosing sides for games.\u00a0 Occasionally, another walker would make eye contact as we passed one-another, and we\u2019d exchange pleasantries. \u00a0Dogs barked in the backyard to make sure I kept moving on past their territory.\u00a0 The air smelled like fresh cut grass as lawn mowers hummed in every direction.\u00a0 The buzzing song of the cicadas almost drowned out all other noise.<\/p>\n

As I turned toward the West, a wonderful sunset was taking place.\u00a0 A seemingly perfect ending to\u00a0a lovely\u00a0day.\u00a0 In this hour-long walk, there were many thoughts running through my head.\u00a0 It would have been easy to dwell on the negative \u2013 too much traffic noise, the recluse people with their heads down and earbuds securely in place, so as to avoid any interaction, the looming gray sky to the North (we\u2019ve\u00a0had enough rain!), the to-do list I needed to finish before I go to bed, and on and on.\u00a0 It would have been easy to let a little gloom settle in.\u00a0 As Eeyore says, \u201cCould be worse.\u00a0 Not sure how, but it could be.\u201d<\/p>\n

As I rounded the last corner of the block to my house, I thanked God for the gift of this time and place, for the abundance of beauty and life just waiting to be noticed.\u00a0 For feeling tired because I was able to work all day and for feeling hungry but knowing there was food in the cupboards.\u00a0 \u201cIt never hurts to keep looking for sunshine.\u201d <\/em>\u00a0Eeyore<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
